The Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) was established in 1976 by the interim Common Services Agency (ICSA). ICSA itself was established by the government of the old Northern Region of Nigeria to provide educational and social services to the people of the region.

The first Interim Joint Matriculation Board Examination (IJMBE) was held in 1977 for all students who had undergone the IJMBE post secondary education program in the existing schools of Basic/Preliminary studies which had replaced the HSCE. Presently IJMB now serve as an Advance Level Examination which guarantee candidate admission into 200level.

The Board is administered by the Institute of Education of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria. Other members of the board include representatives of various education institutions such as Joint Admission Matriculation Board, Federal University of Technology,Minna. parts of the country.

Most People have not heard of the programme IJMB, and it has been rapidly productive originating from the north and spreading to other  part of the country.

The IJMB is supervised, run and moderated by Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. which allow successful students to get admission into 200L of any Nigerian university of their choice. Ideally, Its meant to be 12 months, but the academic calendar have been moderated to 9-10 months to suit all prospective candidates.

IJMB is a basic Advance level programme intended for candidates aspiring to gain admission into any Nigeria University through direct entry (DE). The programme last for nine (9) months(One Session) divided into two semester per session.During this period students are exposed to intensive lectures from Mondays to Fridays every week and a monthly C.A Test Every month end. Required Practicals are been undertake by students for IJMB Programme.
IJMB has been in existence since the early life of some Nigerian politicians who also studied at the school of basic studies,politicians like: Architect Namadi Sambo (Former Vice President Of Nigeria),Umaru Musa Yar'Adua(Late President of Nigeria) and others check Wikipedia.

It is designed to solve problems of admission for candidates seeking admission into Nigeria University instead of JAMB. IJMB result/certificate doesn't expire like JAMB,it can be use for admission over and over.
Its has three department, SCIENCE,ART and SOCIAL SCIENCE.
In every department Three Subject Combination relevant to the course of the candidate is to be chosen.
Science: The science subject offered in the Basic programme are purely Advance Level Science Subjects viz: Biology, Chemistry,Geography,Mathematics, and Physics.
Groups and Subject Combinations
[BS-1 - Chemistry,Physics and Biology],[BS-2 - Mathematics,Chemistry and Physics],[BS-3 - Physics,Chemistry, and Geography],[BS-4 - Mathematics,Geography, and Physics].

Art:The art subject offered in the Basic programme are also Purely Advance Level Art Subjects viz:
Governments,Christian Religious Studies,Islamic Studies and Literature in English,Hausa and History.

[BA-1 - Government,C.R.S and Literature in English],[BA-2 - Governments,Islamic Studies and Literature in English],[BA-3 - Government,C.R.S and Hausa],[BA-4 - C.R.S,Hausa and Literature in English],[BA-5 - C.R.S,History and Literature in English]

Social Science:The social science subject offered in the Basic programme are also Purely Advance Level Social Science Subjects viz:
Governments, Economics, Business Management,Accounting,Sociology and Geography.

[BSS-1 - Government,Economics and Business Management],[BSS-2 - Sociology,Economics and Business Management],[BSS-3 - Economics,Accounting and Business Management],[BSS-4 - Geography,Economics and Business Management],[BSS-5 - Sociology,Accounting and Business Management]

Candidates aspiring to be admitted into the Basic (IJMB) programme:

Must have obtain his/her Form from an accredited centre.
Must have obtain a minimum of Five (5) O/L credits, Ordinary Mathematics and English Language are Compulsory.(Candidate with awaiting result can also also apply, provided the Ordinary Level Result will be submitted before the processing admission to 200Level).
Must have successfully passed through the BIO DATA and Academic Screening Processes(Interview).

CANDIDATES ASPIRING TO BE ADMITTED INTO THE UNIVERSITY
Must have obtain a minimum of 5 point in their exams (this is subject to change when necessary by NUC).
Must have purchased Direct Entry (DE) form and have chosen his/her most preferred university as their first choice.
Must have remedied all deficiencies (if any) (i.e candidates must have complete his/her Ordinary Level Certificate where there is deficiencies either in Two or One Sitting only)
Note: All IJMB Students as a privilege, are automatically given admission into ABU Zaria and Some other Universities provided they satisfy the afore-listed conditions.
